This backsplash design began with a family's special interest for vintage equipment. They owned and loved a '52 Ford pick-up truck and a '53 John Deere tractor. They wanted both to be predominantly featured in a design for their kitchen. An on-site meeting with the family presented many additional personal details to be included. Their home was set back from a country farm road. In view were unique and beautifully kept barns. There were also horses, chickens, and two playful black Labrador Retrievers that rushed out to greet us. Each of these elements were incorporated into the final landscape, bordered by an old limestone foundation wall. A mailbox with the family name is painted at the edge of the road. 12" stone tile was chosen to maintain harmony within the composition and provide a large smooth painting surface. 6 separate tiles were painted to meet the installation specifications for the mural. Including such personal details really brings the design to life, gives it authenticity, and adds deep meaning to the piece.
